Andrej Brglez
Andrej Brglez is a sociologist, publicist, mobility expert and researcher, television editor and host of professional shows in sustainable mobility, transport and development policies. He is a veteran of war for Slovenia. Works as director of the Institute of Civilization and Culture since 2012.
He joined the Institute after working for several years as a test and factory driver for premium car brands, while he was employed as a documentary and field camera-man and a research assistant in international expeditions, among others in the Dja reservate, Cameroon. He is author and longtime editor of the show Avtomobilnost on national TV Slovenia, creator of podcasts and vlogs, expert and contributor to various domestic and foreign media.
Brglez is one of the most established experts in the field of safety and sustainable mobility in Slovenia, author and initiator of numerous preventive actions for motorcyclists and drivers of passenger vehicles, writer of various publications on traffic safety and environmentally friendly driving solutions. He works as safe driving instructor and is the founder of the first safe-drive poligon in Slovenia (Safe Driving Centre Vransko).
For the Institute he designed (together with Alja Brglez) the Egozero project, which he then led for many years – Egozero was awarded a special award at WTM World Travel Market London in 2012, and presented at ITB Internationale Tourismus Börse in Berlin.
He is a member of the International Automobile Federation FIA and president of the SAK Slovenian Automobile Club. From 2021 to 2023 he was president of AMZS Automotive Association of Slovenia.
Alja Brglez
Alja Brglez is a historian, researcher and publicist. She holds a PhD in historical anthropology and a master's degree in history, and holds a master's degree in business management (MBA). She is the founder, research associate and researcher at ICK - Institute of Civilization and Culture, researcher at AMEU ECM European Center Maribor and president of the Commission for Sustainability in Sport at the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, Senator of the MTF Mediterranean Tourism Foundation and member of ECFR European Council of Foreign Relations.
Alja Brglez is the founder of ICK, she was its first director in 1997, and then continuously from 2003 to 2012. The achievements of this period gained her the title of "Global Leader for Tomorrow" (2003) and then "Young Global Leader" (2005) by the World Economic Forum. In Slovenia, she is one of the pioneers of sustainable projects, focusing primarily on sustainable mobility and waste management. The ICK Egozero project, which she conceived together with Andrej Brglez, was awarded a special award at WTM London in 2012 and presented at ITB Berlin in 2012.
From March 1999 to January 2003, she was Government Spokesperson and Director of the Government PR and Media Office. During this time, she was Head of the Cabinet of the then Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek. She was the President of the Council for the Promotion of Slovenia, which was founded in 2002 by the Drnovšek government on her initiative. She led the information/communication campaign in preparation for the referenda on Slovenia's accession to NATO and the EU, as well as certain events of historical importance: the first visit of US President Bill Clinton to the region in June 1999, the visit of Pope John Paul II to Slovenia in September 1999, and the meeting of Russian and American Presidents Vladimir Putin and George Bush in Slovenia in June 2002.
She is a member of the Council of the Friends of Western Balkans, a think tank founded in 2023 by former President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor. She is now an adviser to director Pahor, after being the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor, in both terms of office from 2012 to 2022. He has been working with Borut Pahor continuously since the 2012 election campaign - when he was elected and then sworn in as President of the Republic on December 23, 2012, she became Head of his Cabinet.
During this time, she also served as an adviser to the President on International Relations (June 2017 to August 2019). As Head of Cabinet, she directed all activities of the President, focusing primarily on the following thematic areas: national reconciliation, international coexistence, the Slovenia 2030 project and climate change – since its establishment in 2019 she has been Secretary General of the Standing Committee of the President of the Republic on Climate Policy. In 2022, Italian President Mattarella awarded her a state Decoration.
